Joe Robles Jr. Convicted

Paul Mones, P.C. Will File Civil Lawsuit On Behalf Of Victim Of Joe Robles, Jr.

The arrest and conviction of former Eleanor Roosevelt High School track coach Joe Robles, Jr. is another tragic example of a teacher and coach using his position of authority and trust to sexually abuse students. Children and their parents place their faith and confidence in schools to protect students from sexual abuse by teachers like Joe Robles Jr. In this case Eleanor Roosevelt High School and the Corona-Norco School District failed its students. Attorney Paul Mones said, “A school’s first and foremost duty is the safety of its students, plain and simple. The sexual abuse of a student by a teacher represents the ultimate violation of the responsibility that a school has to its students and their families.”

During Robles’ sentencing hearing several victim-survivors bravely described in great detail how Joe Robles Jr., a then 36-year-old track coach at Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Eastvale, used his position of trust and authority within the school and his friendly rapport with students to groom them for later sexual abuse. Particularly concerning was Robles’ use of social media as a means of grooming his targets. He was convicted of several counts, including, unlawful intercourse with a minor, sexual penetration with a foreign object, sexual battery, oral copulation with a minor, and multiple counts of annoying/molesting a minor.

“The victim impact statements read at Robles’ sentencing were extremely powerful. The young women that came forward showed incredible strength and fortitude in sharing their stories and I am honored that our firm has been trusted to take the next step toward holding Robles and his enablers accountable,” said Attorney Courtney Kiehl. “The purpose of the civil lawsuit against Joe Robles Jr. and the Corona-Norco Unified School District is to obtain the just compensation our client deserves for the harm she suffered.”

Joe Robles Jr. targeted a number of young women at the high school. Serial sexual abusers are not uncommon in youth-serving organizations like schools, churches, and youth recreation programs.
